This is sort of how I picture the Mayor's library to look, one of Leisel's favouite places. I see it with that many books all the way around the room. Also, without the fluffy little dog and the pink walls- I pictured them a dark red/brown. I think that's also how the Mayor's wife's desk would look.

This picture is of burning books. It is what I pictured when they talked about how they burned books in town square regularly for the Nazi's.

this is a picture of the Hitler Youth. I think its horrible that even the children of Germany were brainwashed into thinking that anyone who wasn't a blond-haired, blue eyed Catholic was inferior.

  8. I think Kelsey's picture of the library was great! I picture it more like this, though, with lines of shelves as well as the books on the walls. In the bottom left corner, there is a piece of what I think would be Ilsa Hermann's desk. In the middle of the picture you can see a bit of a space without books. This is where the window would be.

  14. http://pix.avaxnews.com/avaxnews/6f/00/0000006f_medium.jpeg -- represents the way I saw the mayor speak out to the people of Molching (based on a city called Olching, Germany) about how they need to get rid of or burn any reminders of the years before Hitler came in to power, the mayor is leading and telling the people what would be best for him and that they should do as recommended or else there would be consequences, this also shows how passionate he is about being a Nazi.
http://0.tqn.com/d/archaeology/1/0/u/B/basement316.jpg -- the basement in the book is very symbolic since it shows the many versatile ways it could be used. The basement from my perspective is where Liesel feels the most at ease. It’s a place where she is allowed to express her affection for learning and not be judged, also it’s where her mama lets her be public with the fact that she is reading the stolen books and practicing her writing skills even if it’s on the walls. Since the family isn’t all to rich the walls of the basement are a way for her to release her knowledge onto like a blank canvas. As well the basement is known to be a home to a fugitive. It’s like a hide out or a shelter for Max from all the evil and the misunderstandings of the world that are targeting him. The stair case in the image is like where I could see the Hubermann setting up the blank sheet cover to hide Max from the Nazi Party members when they come in to check whether the basement is a suitable place for a shelter during the War.
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=soccer+game#/d9clh4 -- the soccer games that Liesel goes too, in my opinion act like her down time, as well as her time to prove herself to all the boys. In a way she reminds me of myself when I was younger running outside always wanting to play with the boys while all the girls would go off and pick flowers and lay of the grass. It’s as if she feels as if it’s her element, as if she belongs and later on she proves to be right because she creates great friendships with the people around her.

This is how I think that the train that Liesel was on when her brother died would look like. I think that the car that Liesel was in would have a
German population instead of Jewish. I also think that it was a little bit less crowded because the trains were supposed to be in humane and they would not treat Germans as badly as Jews. I also think that the ground would have snow on it because death describes it as feeling as if the world had been covered by snow.

I choose this image to represent what I think Isla Hermann’s library looks like. Immediately when it was brought up in the book I pictured a grand library with shelves completely made up of wood with beautiful antiques and carvings. I pictured all of the shelves being lined with books and there being one of those ladders that you can climb to get to the top shelves to retrieve books.

This is how I kind of picture the children playing in the street, like it has been described several time in the book. The buildings are also slighlty similar to how I would of imagined the buildings in the book to look like. The buildings are said to be close together.

This picture shows how I picture one of Molching's roads, Munich Street, with the followers and soldiers marching on the Fuhrer's birthday. The street visible on the right is Himmel Street, as in the book the characters are often said to turn onto or off of this street from Munich Street.

This is how I picture the apple orchards that Leisel and Rudy have stolen from with the rest of Arthur Berg's 'group'. I picture the fence fairly tall because in the book Arthur Berg was doubtful that Liesel and Rudy will be able to climb over it as they are shorter and do not have any experience with jumping fences.

When I read the part of the book when Hans Hubermann left his family behind to go into the army, an image came into my head of hands separating in slow motion especially when I thought of Hans saying goodbye to Rosa. Even though they get into a lot of arguments, I can tell deep down that they care deeply for each other. This picture is kind of what I pictured it to look like.

This picture is similar to how I view the Mayor's wife's library but with some sizable differences. The things that I think would be different are that I don't believe there would be any of the furniture in the middle of the room. I always just kind of thought of the room as having no furniture other than the Mayor's wife's desk and chair. I also think that there would not have been a spiral staircase. The final difference would be that the back book shelf would end about four feet earlier and in its place would be a window that is just slightly ajar (sometimes with a table beside the window with cookies on it that no one eats).
